Effects of a Submesoscale Oceanographic Filament on Zooplankton Dynamics in the Arctic Marginal Ice Zone

چکیده
Submesoscale structures, characterized by intense vertical and horizontal velocities, potentially play a crucial role in oceanographic dynamics pelagic fluxes. Due to their small spatial scale short temporal persistence, conditions for situ measurements are challenging thus the of such structures zooplankton distribution is still unclear. During RV Polarstern expedition PS107 Arctic Fram Strait July/August 2017, submesoscale filament was detected, which initiated an ad hoc biological sampling campaign. To determine taxonomic composition, distribution, abundance biomass, MultiNet hauls (depth intervals: 300–200–100–50–10–0 m) were taken at four stations across filament. Zooplankton data evaluated context with physical-oceanographic observations assess physical-biological interactions. Our show that features considerably impact dynamics. While structuring pelagial distinct communities as well dimension, they accumulate biomass epipelagic species site convergence. Further, high-velocity jets associated possibly major importance allocation connectivity, accelerating instance processes ‘Atlantification’ Arctic. Thus, affect surrounding ecosystem multiple ways consequences higher trophic levels biogeochemical cycles.

Shallow methylmercury production in the marginal sea ice zone of the central Arctic Ocean
Methylmercury (MeHg) is a neurotoxic compound that threatens wildlife and human health across the Arctic region. Though much is known about the source and dynamics of its inorganic mercury (Hg) precursor, the exact origin of the high MeHg concentrations in Arctic biota remains uncertain. Arctic coastal sediments, coastal marine waters and surface snow are known sites for MeHg production. Observ...
متن کاملGranular flow in the marginal ice zone.
The region of sea ice near the edge of the sea ice pack is known as the marginal ice zone (MIZ), and its dynamics are complicated by ocean wave interaction with the ice cover, strong gradients in the atmosphere and ocean and variations in sea ice rheology. This paper focuses on the role of sea ice rheology in determining the dynamics of the MIZ. Here, sea ice is treated as a granular material w...
متن کاملcritical period effects in foreign language learning:the influence of maturational state on the acquisition of reading, writing, and grammar in english as a foreign language
since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...

abstract reception environment has considerable effects on accepting a translation. as the expectations of a target culture and its values and needs change throughout history, its criteria for accepting a translation or rejecting it will change accordingly (gentzler, 2001). the expectations of iran, as the reception environment in the present study, have changed after the islamic revolution. i...
